Track 4, unit 2, page 22, exercise 2. Listen to Sophie talking about her school life on a local radio show. Which activities in exercise 1 does she mention? Do you ever think you need more time to do what you want to do? Well, I do. Our history teacher, who nobody likes, has given us two essays to write for Thursday. And I’ve got to study for a maths exam next week. I was revising this afternoon, but then my friend Tanya phoned me and we chatted for over an hour. After that, you see, I just couldn’t concentrate on anything. I also need to get on with my art project, but that’s impossible too. I wanted to find out something on the internet this afternoon, but Mum was using the computer when I got home. She said she was sorry, but she was writing an important email. I know it’s not her fault, but now I haven’t got enough time. When I’m not doing all this homework, I’m captain of the football team. How cool is that? The only problem is, you know, it takes up such a lot of my time. And there’s my little sister, Laura. You see, most afternoons I have to look after her. She’s great, but if I take her with me to football practice, she jumps up and down on the pitch. Last week she started screaming, and I had to buy her loads of ice cream just to keep her quiet. It was so embarrassing. Then I couldn’t stay and chat afterwards to my friends because she was too tired. It’s just not fair. So how can I do what I want to do? You see, I want to play professional football. I also want boys to like me and not think I’m a snob. I want to pass all my exams and get a really good job, and, yeah, I want to look like Angelina Jolie and marry somebody who looks like Brad Pitt. But most of all, I want to finish my homework, and then I just want to have some fun.

Along with jogging and swimming, cycling is one of the best all-round forms of exercise. It can help to increase your strength and energy, giving you more efficient muscles and stronger heart. But increasing your strength is not the only advantage of cycling. Because you're not carrying the weight of your body on your feet, it's a good form of exercise for people with painful feet or backs. However, with all forms of exercise it's important to start slowly and build up gently. Doing too much too quickly can damage muscles that aren't used to working. If you have any doubts about taking up cycling for health reasons, talk to your doctor and ask his/her advice.
Ideally you should be cycling at least two or three times a week. For the exercise to be doing you good, you should get a little out of breath. Don't worry that if you begin to lose your breath, it could be dangerous and there must be something wrong with your heart. This is simply not true; shortness of breath shows that the exercise is having the right effect. However, if you find you are in pain then you should stop and take a rest.
